When President Bush launched the Iraq War, one of the central tenants was that democratically elected governments would bring peace and stability to the middle east. In January 2006, the Palestinian Territories elected Hamas to represent them as their government. Being regarded by a terrorist organization by the west, the U.S. reacted to this election by cutting off all aid to the Palestinian Terroritories. Shortly thereafter, Hamas was outest from the government by rival party Fatah. Hamas then siezed control of the Gaza strip, while Fatah holds power on the West Bank. Funding has since now been restored to Fatah government.

In this "Intelligence Squared" oxford-style debate from December 2006, representive from both side argue whether Hamas is actually a terrorist organization.

Israel is often characterized as being highly influential both with the U.S. mainstream media and it's federal government. This documentary asserts that because of these close ties, the hardships and injustice imposed on Palestinians are being disregarded by the west.
